Rowan McCandless is the author of Persephone’s Children (Fall/2021). A proud creative outlier, Rowan weaves traditional literary techniques with subversive forms. Through thematically linked and structurally inventive essays, she explores the fraught and fragmented relationship between memory and trauma. Winner of a National Magazine Award in the category of one-of-a-kind storytelling (2020) and The Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize (2019), her writing can be found in The Journey Prize stories:30, The Fiddlehead, and The Malahat Review, amongst others. Rowan lives in Winnipeg, which is located on Treaty 1 territory. Being Black, biracial and the daughter of multiple diasporas, Rowan likes to spend time with family, friends, and her Bernese Mountain dog, Toby.
