Selene nudges the box of tissues on the side table toward me. I fight the urge to push it back.

“Have you thought any more about my suggestion? About keeping a journal?” Selene says. “Maybe writing down your thoughts and feelings will help to open space for your other writing?” I tell her that keeping a journal feels about as much fun as getting a root canal. “It can help with the stress, the overwhelm from all the trauma.” I tell her that I don’t want to sit with that much pain. “But aren’t you sitting with it already?”
